The theme for this year’s IPWEA conference, Disruption - the pathway to resilience, strikes a national chord.
As engineers, we have a job to deliver a blueprint for a future we want to live in; to plan tomorrow, today.
One of 11 members taking the floor at this year’s conference is Water Sector Leader, Liam Foster.
Urban settlements are forecasted to account for over 80% of the world's population by 2050. The 2014 C40 Cities report identified a key impact of urbanisation being that ‘Cities are responsible for some 75% of global energy consumption and 80% of greenhouse gas emissions’.
Cities represent our greatest opportunity to reverse the significant environmental degradation of the past.
Liam will be joined by David Boothway from Christchurch City Council to address the importance of delivering urban future resilience. Together, they have developed a ‘Future Ready’ plan tailored to urban catchments.
